Description

Amarantine is set in the future after the invention of an anti degeneration drug which the book is named after. The introduction of the drug, which increased the human lifespan tenfold, caused major problems until the establishment of population control measures. Any child born without a birth visa was deemed illegal, as were their parents, and pushed out of society. Their only option, to live wild without any legal status, no employment hope, no government help, dubbed by the legal citizens as ‘renegals’.

Amy is the pampered daughter of a population control politician and an actress, she is just turning 16, the age at which the amarantine injection is given and CEI (chip enhanced intelligence) fitted. She is a strong minded individual who questions the ‘norm’ and is adventurous.

Tim lives with his mother in a camp a few miles from Amy’s house, and has learned to hate and fear the legal people or ‘legits’ as the renegals call them. When Tim comes across a den in the woods he is curious and keeps returning. When he realises it is a legit girl’s hideaway, he cannot help but be fascinated and secretly watches her.

The meeting of two lives which could not be more different lead to adventure and calamity.
